Are You Exam Ready?
Hope you are all well!
I had a dream a few weeks ago, I shared it with my peoples, and I would like to share with you all in hopes that it speaks to someone else, like it spoke to me! Thank You Lord for revelations from You. I love that God speaks to us everywhere and through everything!!
I think this will start a series of posts on Time and Preparation - something God has been seriously speaking to me about recently..
Anyway, heres the dream.
This morning I had a dream, I know it was morning because my daily alarm woke me up to pray but I snoozed it and went back to sleep.
In the dream, I was back in uni and it was exam season. I was walking along whistling a church tune and checking my phone for my exam timetable, but for some reason it wasn’t logging in/loading up my schedule. I knew I had an exam coming up but was it today, tomorrow, next week? I didn’t know.
I was walking through my uni grounds towards the direction of my house and I saw everyone in my class lining up outside the exam hall, and I started to get a bit confused and panic, was the exam today?
I was trying harder to load my schedule and it wasn’t loading to my frustration. I started walking up to my classmates and many were relaxed and ready, others were studying notes and some were just straight up panicked (this is a Word in itself, but i'll speak about this another time in the series). “What exam is this?” I asked. My classmates looked at me like I was crazy.. “the most important exam of this season Ola, obviously masculinity (100% exam during uni)” and I started to get STRESSED because I hadn’t read up for the exam AT ALL since lectures. Everyone started to walk into the exam hall and I stayed still for a second, wondering what on earth I was going to do.
I looked at my hand and I had my notes so I started frantically going through the pages trying to get into my head every word or at least the general gist of what I had written in my lectures and revision - but it was MONTHS old and my mind was not absorbing it because of the panic of the situation. And then I woke up.
As I pondered on my dream, The Holy Spirit spoke to me saying:
As Christians, we go through exam seasons. Seasons where what we have learnt in lectures and revision/private study (lectures: sermons/church and revision/private study: private quiet time) is going to be tested. Some are going to be big exams and some are going to be small. We are going to go through trials and tribulations and situations where we will need to put on our full armour and go into battle. If we do not constantly and consistently read the word with Holy Spirit and continuously meditate on the word of God, we will get to our exam hall and try and frantically search through our notes and scriptures for guidance, only to get hazy, brief, many times factually incorrect and biblically unsound doctrine which we will write down or act out as our answer to the questions and scenarios placed in front of us.
In earthly exams when we do not have the correct wording we lose a considerable amount (if not all) of the marks, because we are not using the correct wording / trigger words that are expected. This is the same with our spiritual exams. The power that is in the words written in the scriptures will be useless if they are quoted incorrectly or only using the “gist” of the scripture.
We must use the exact wording of the scripture and it must be burned onto our hearts. God did not make a mistake/give us the general gist of what He meant, but the exact wording. Every word written in the Bible is intentional and means something. He did not make a mistake and neither should we.
The Word of God looses its power when we quote it incorrectly or out of context.
It doesn’t matter what we wrote down during our lectures and revision times if we cannot then relay it onto our exam scripts. Our examiner is not going to say “oh well they had a bad day, let’s go and look back at their revision notes and grade them according to that” no. They will take what we wrote/did in our exams as all we know. The devil isnt going to see you on a bad day and say 'let me come back when they are stronger/having a better day' He is going to PREY on you all the more.
Our quiet time and listening to sermons amount to nothing if we cannot use it/recall it when it is actually needed. God doesn’t care that you read His Word, but that you actually obey it when the time arises.
Love, Peace and JOY!
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." - Joshua 1:8
