For The Love of God?
From the Love of God.
Good morning people and, a little late but, Happy New Year!
I hope you are all well and growing in faith.
I personally think it’s crazy that we are already in the second month of 2019, mainly because I feel like 2018 was super short but never ending at the same time.. Like, the year went quickly, but the months dragged, but the weeks went quickly, but the days dragged, you know what I mean? Just me? Ok…awks.
Moving swiftly on, can you believe that MyFaithFiles is now 1 years old? On Sunday 6th January 2019, we marked a WHOLE YEAR of faith blogging and I’m honestly so grateful and in awe of how far we have come on here. It’s been a complete struggle at times, because quite frankly, I can be lazy and procrastination has been my middle name at times (the Lord is seriously working on this in me) but it has also been extremely fun and rewarding. Please pray for me that these time-wasting traits fall away this year, because, I actually just don’t have the time to be lazy. Too much work to do.
So, with that being said, before I begin this blog post, I want to publicly acknowledge and bless the Lord God Almighty; for doing what He has done this past year in my life, the things He has shown me, that blog posts He has laid on my heart, the conviction and chastening He has provided by the Spirit of God, the abundant love and patience He has for me and equally as importantly, I thank Him for you all. I mean, there are actually people reading this blog. Unreal.
Thank you Pops! I appreciate it all.
Ok, so let’s GO!
I heard in a documentary, that even Christians need to hear The Good News almost weekly to serve as a reminder of the greatness and lovingkindness of the Lord. So here am I, telling you (and myself), believers and unbelievers alike, the beauty and freedom that is, The Good News.
Sometimes when we read The Good News, it doesn’t exactly sink into our minds, the magnitude of the grace, love and mercy The Lord showed and continues to show to us. So I’m going to break it down in the way I understand/think about this precious gift, that helps me grasp it and hopefully it helps you too.
In the beginning of time, God made the heavens and the earth and set a man, Adam, to have dominion over the land. Adam was alone so God created a woman, Eve, to be his helpmeet (helper). Eve, having been deceived by the serpent Satan, ate the fruit God expressly told them not to. Adam ate it too. Sin came into the world and from there we are all born in sin. From our very existence, being born of the flesh, means that we are inherently sinful. We can see this even in the ‘smallest’ things, such as not having to teach a child to lie or be selfish.
Fast-forward now, Imagine a dead and decaying/rotting body in the bottom of a massive pond, and this pond isn’t filled with clean water, but with swampy and infected marshland water, that smells so bad you wouldn’t optionally stay within a 50 mile radius. Next imagine that the King of your country, takes off his clothes and willing jumps into the swampy, filthy pond, swims to the bottom, finds and then picks up this dead and rotting body, carries it to the surface, and washes the body off. Then, whilst they are still dead, he puts his lips on theirs and gives them mouth to mouth resuscitation and they regain life and consciousness. What was once a decaying body, is now whole and complete…and alive. If that wasn’t enough, now being alive, He then marries this person, and commits that for the rest of their life, they are his and he is theirs.
Ok, nice story, but how does this relate to me?
You are that dead body.
Whilst you were dead and rotting in your sin, Christ, the King of kings, came from His throne in heaven, where He was (and is) worshipped all day and all night, He took off all His royal robes and His many crowns, and became flesh that He may come into this sin-infested world, and not only save our souls from eternal separation from Him and the burning sulphur and flames of hell, but allow us to forever dwell in His presence and reign with Him once this earth is destroyed and we all die the physical death.
Whilst He was here, He was beaten, and mocked and ridiculed, and despised and hung upon a cross to pay the price for your sins that you should have. He was killed on that cross, and then buried in a tomb for three days and after these three days He rose again, conquering the thing the devil had against us, spiritual death. So that in you believing in Him and Him breathing His Spirit into your lungs, there is an exchange which allows you to live forever, with Him in the greatest Kingdom to ever exist.
Amazing right? Just think about that for another few minutes. HE died for YOU. He had mercy upon you, that in your dead state, whilst you were on the fast track lane to hell, He came to the earth, He picked you up, He washed you off, and He breathed (or awaits your acceptance of Him to breathe) the Breath of Life into YOUR nostrils, that YOU may live. And whilst He was on the cross, He was thinking of YOU. Yep, God had our names on His mind when He paid the ultimate price for us… and He did all this even when He didn’t need to. He was already living, He was already King. He already had everything.
I want to remind you, that He didn’t do any of this because of how cool, how nice, or how ‘good’ you are, because as we said before, we are sinful by nature, nothing we can and will do apart from Him means anything or can ever be good.
He did this, because He is Love. He is therefore patient; kind; not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. He does not insist on His own way (which is why He gives us free will); He is not irritable or resentful; He does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. He bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. He is the very definition of Love, and because of His very nature, He kindly bore all He did to save you. He absolutely loves us. He LOVES you.
Someone needed to hear that one line today. HE LOVES AND DIED FOR YOU.
I am so passionate about this truth being told, because, for such a long time, even as a believer, I was fearful. I was fearful that God wouldn’t love me and if He did, that He would stop loving me. I constantly questioned if I had done enough. Constantly on edge, because of this misconception or ignorance of the truth of The Gospel. So much so, that I began attempting to work my way into heaven (lol, like that would have ever worked), purely from the heart posture of fear and misunderstanding of Love of God.
I was doing works for the Lord in an attempt to ensure He loved me and therefore in turn, that meant He’d let me into heaven, right? It began to be a web of bondage and condemnation for me. I began to hate myself when I didn’t read the Word, or when I hadn’t prayed for a certain amount of time because I thought, God isn’t going to love me anymore. It wasn’t until I began learning and meditating on the Gospel, that I was released from these fears and works for love.
Having now been reminded (or learnt) this truth, we need to continue renewing our minds and remembering the Love that God has for us, so that we can realign our minds and keep ourselves away from dead works and fear. My mind is very forgetful, especially in regards to unfathomable things such as the greatness of Yahweh and His character of Love, so I find that if I don’t meditate or read the word of God often, I fall back into this fear and dead works. I constantly need a top up of reality and the bible gives me that. Nowhere in the bible did someone doing dead works get them anywhere good or fast. The supernatural, the good works, the power of God can only come from God, and since God is Love, it can therefore, only come from Love.
We, and our works, need to be rooted and grounded in His love for us. We need to understand what He already did because of this love. He already sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for us. He already did that. That is the highest height of love, ‘what greater love is there than this, that a man lays down His life for His friend’ that is the greatest act of love, there is literally nothing more you can do to make Him love you any more. You cannot do anything FOR the love of God. Our works and acts cannot be from a place of gaining the love of God. I will repeat this again, there is NOTHING you can do to increase God’s love for you. Nothing.
We cannot operate from a mindset of place of dead works and/or performance, because that will ultimately get us nowhere. However, we walk from a place of boldness and obedience to the will of the Lord for our lives and the Body of Christ as a whole, because of the love of God. Living works can only come from the Love of God. Therefore, we work FROM the Love of God, not FOR it.
Finally, remember when I said that He awaits your acceptance of Him, so that He can breathe the Breath of Life into you? It’s true; everything we’ve said before, happened, regardless of whether you accept Him and His precious gift or not. He died for your sins, but it becomes your story, if you chose to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you believe in Him, then you receive the Breath of Life and you too have the gift of everlasting life! Regardless of your physical death, you get to live with Christ forever. But there is an exchange that must take place for you to participate, an exchange of Faith for Life.
Do you believe all that Christ died for your sins? Do want to give your life to Christ today? Do you want to accept Him?
Luckily, you’ve already completed the first part; which is that you believe in your heart that He is real and true and that He died for you. The second part is that you must confess with your mouth that He is Lord, so repeat after me:
Heavenly Father, I come before you today to say thank You, Thank You for the gift you have given me in Jesus Christ. I Believe in You, I Believe in Jesus, and today, I ask that You come into my life and be Lord over it. I surrender to You and I Bless You. Thank You.
AND THAT’S IT!! WOOHOOOO!! Welcome to the Body of Christ, Welcome to the land of the Living!! All of heaven is rejoicing right now at the best decision you will ever make in your life! Glory to the Father!! Now get plugged in! You gotta get to church, and surround yourself with believers, to help continue your journey with Christ. Message me on my social media (Instagram is probably the best), and I’ll try help you find a biblically sound church, inform you of a few good Christian events coming up, and let’s start building!
And if this is a renewal/reminder post for you about the Love of God, then, doesn’t it feel great?
Meditate on it for a little bit.
Ok, this has (again) been a ridiculously long post, pretty sure it’s my longest yet!
(Are y’all still praying for my conciseness? Keep travailing, it may take a while looool)
I love you all!
Love, Peace and JOY
